News, chisme & chit…chat: April 2

NEWS...

We’ll start today’s edition reviewing news about books, authors and publishers.
...Lots of buzz going around about Lisa Burstein’s upcoming release “PRETTY AMY.”  It’s a Young Adult novel that starts with a “prom night gone horribly – and hilariously – wrong.” Publication date is not until May 15 but it’s already getting great advance reviews and pre-orders are building. I plan on purchasing not just because I’m a young adult at heart (I actually wanted to be a YA author…when I was 13), but because I want to support any author who will don a real – and kind of hideous – prom dress as part of her book promotion. You can even vote on which dress the author and her editor will wear at an upcoming convention (voting closes Wednesday)!

...This week’s book recommendation is “INSATIABLE” by Cari Quinn. It’s not a new release so it’s a pretty inexpensive e-book purchase.  If you love the “friends to lovers” storyline then you will love this. A warning though: contains very explicit sex scenes. Muy caliente, indeed!  Heat level is 4-5 Besos. But I must say that the balance between erotica and sweet romance is perfect. I really loved this story!
...Finally, biggest news in my life is that Savvy Authors’ April Bootcamp has officially begun! This is basically a 30 day writing challenge to push authors to get words on paper (or doc file).  My goal at the end of the 30 days is to finally finish my WIP “Making Tamales.” I was able to get in more than 3,000 words yesterday, so I think I’m off to a great start!

CHISME...

This is the gossip section, girls and boys. I plan on dishing on the latest scandal and rumors from the real world, TV land and my own life (yeah right, like my life is gossip-worthy). Ha!
...Anyone else anxiously awaiting tonight’s episode of CASTLE? Writers seem to moving along the Castle-Beckett love story now and it looks like we finally get to see Kate’s true feelings. Of course, it has to happen when Castle seems to find himself a new, um, distraction. While I always cringe when two main characters finally get together (anyone remember Moonlighting?), the chase can become tedious when there’s so much back and forth and up and down. I love this show so I hope the writers have something genius up their sleeves on how to solve this problem.

...That escandalosa Octomom is now getting death threats because it turns out she’s getting welfare for each of her kids! Ok, people, I get that you don’t like this lady. But death threats, really?

Instead, I think we all need to take a breath and read this blog post by Jo Ashline from OC Moms. It’s meant to be tongue-in-cheek, so don’t get your chonies in a bunch. OK?

5 jobs Octomom can do to get off welfare:

CHIT...CHAT

...So yesterday was April Fool’s Day. The day before I had to mentally prepare myself for the onslaught of silly practical jokes my kids would play on me. After Christmas, it used to be their favorite “holiday.” I say “used to be” because not once did they try to pull a fast one. Even though I dread it every year, I found myself missing their silliness and weird sense of humor.
Just another sign that they’ve grown up. Sigh….

Well, that’s it for my first edition of this new feature. I’m hoping to do it every Monday so we’ll see how it goes. Don’t forget to come back on Friday for this week’s story (still looking for some suggested words too).
Until then, have a great week!
